High Judicial Council member arrested on corruption charges

Serbian IM Ivica Dačić stated on Friday that four court officials from Kosovska Mitrovica and Belgrade had been arrested on suspicion of abuse of office.

He said that Kosovska Mitrovica court Secretary Miroslav Božović and two other court officials, Blagoje Ćurović and Dragan Gavrilović were arrested on corruption charges.

High Judicial Council member and High Magistrates Court Judge Blagoje Jakšić was interrogated by a Belgrade Special Court judge on Friday afternoon. He was remanded in custody for 30 days and an investigation against him has been launched.

According to the interior minister, the court issued a warrant for two more individuals in connection to the investigation, Ljubomir Biševac and Miodrag Laketić.

Jakšic's immunity from prosecution was revoked on Friday, and the Prosecution suggested that he should be placed in detention.

The Organized Crime Prosecution filed a request for launching an investigation against Jakšić on Friday on suspicion that he had committed the criminal act of abuse of office by procuring RSD 20mn worth of unlawful benefit together with his associates while he held the position as the head of the Kosovska Mitrovica Municipal Court.
