Regional Ministerial Conference- Facing the Challenges of Organized and Serious Crimes in the Western Balkans
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia, together with the Ministry of Interior and the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office, is organizing a regional Ministerial Conference “Facing the Challenges of Organized and Serious Crimes in the Western Balkans” on September 28 and 29 2009. The objective of the conference is to strengthen regional and trans-national cooperation in the area of justice and home affairs. The Conference is supported by MDTF-JSS and several other development partners.
This conference will provide a forum for Ministers of Justice, Ministers of Interior and Public Prosecutors from the Western Balkan countries, as well as from several EU countries, and to exchange of experiences and good practices in combating organized crime. A special emphasis will be put on inter-agency and trans-national cooperation since joint action in the area of fight against organized crime is the precondition for countries’ EU accession.
Experiences from EU member states in fighting organized crime will be discussed at the Conference, as well as individual experiences from the Western Balkan. Participation of government representatives from all Western Balkan countries is of great importance in identifying good practices and challenges that the region is facing in the fight against organized crime.
The Conference will also provide a platform for bilateral contacts between authorities and contribute to the existing co-operation. Special attention will also be given to the role of the Prosecutor’s Offices in the fight against organized crime, and to the exchange of experiences in the area of mutual legal assistance.
